Yesterday I went by a local flea market. I rummaged through a bin of junk saws and found this for $2. Hey, it had a nib and a nice wheat carved handle so I took it home.
After working on it for an hour, it looked like this
It is a Disston #12 22" panel saw, 12 ppi. There was not even a hint of an etch but the blade it straight and the handle has only a couple of chips off the underside of the top horn. Once sharpened it willl be very useful at the workbench.
One thing I found when I took the handle off was an X stamped into the blade. I haven't seen this before. Does anyone know if it has any significance?
